Vision Statement

Our Aspiration Statement

We will co-create just futures with our communities through transformative writing advocacy.

The Writing Center operates with a broad understanding of collaboration in the MSU community. Peer-to-peer consultations with students, faculty, and the community allow us to expand ideas of literacy and composing beyond traditional models and geographic boundaries.

With this in mind, the Writing Center is committed to the following:

Our Intention Statement

The Writing Center works collaboratively to foster cultures of writing and research across the university and within local and global communities. We engage with interdisciplinary and expansive views of literacy, community, and pedagogy to enact our values of transformation, equity, curiosity, collaboration, and care.

Our work has four primary audience:

Students

We support students by offering one-on-one peer writing consultations, writing workshops, graduate and creative writing groups, and student employment opportunities.

Faculty, Staff, and Campus Partners

We support faculty, staff, and campus partnerships by offering writing across the curriculum programming, grant writing support, professional development resources, writing groups, and syllabus development.

Local, Regional, and Global Communities

We work with local communities through the Community Writing Center in collaboration with the East Lansing Public Library and with other community partners, and we work with regional and global communities through ongoing partnerships.

The Writing Center Field

We value contributing to writing center studies and fostering professional partnerships by working with other university and community literacy centers both across the United States and internationally.
